Nurturing Resilience
Co-designing the future of Cedarwood's Early Years space
Nurturing Resilience is a research project run by Northumbria University, working with Cedarwood Trust, to explore how families, carers, and practitioners can help shape the future of Early Years provision in the community.
Hello!
I'm Henry, from the School of Design at Northumbria University. We're working with Cedarwood Trust to find out what matters most to the people who use the Early Years space — before any decisions are made about how it's redeveloped.
What's happening
We're running two activities at Cedarwood Trust:
A two-week pop-up installation in the Spruce Room, where you can share your thoughts through sticker-voting, postcard prompts, and a craft activity — in your own time, whenever you visit.
A workshop bringing together families, carers, and practitioners to talk through the ideas that come up in more depth.
You're welcome to take part in as much or as little as you'd like.
Why we're doing this
Cedarwood's Early Years space is being considered for redevelopment. Before any design work begins, we want to understand what matters most to the people who use it. We believe your knowledge and experience are essential to shaping a space that genuinely meets the community's needs.
Taking part is your choice
Taking part is entirely voluntary. If you choose not to take part, or to stop at any point, it won't affect any of the services or activities you use at Cedarwood — you're still very welcome to use the Early Years space either way.
You don't need to decide today. You're welcome to think it over, talk to someone you trust, or ask us any questions first.
What we'll collect
We may take photographs and notes during the installation, and the workshop will be audio-recorded for transcription. You can choose whether your face or name appears in anything we share — and if you'd rather stay anonymous, that's completely fine.
Your data
Everything we collect is stored securely by the University, following data protection law. It won't be shared beyond the research team without your permission, and it will be kept for 4 years before being deleted.
